Hi All,
Remember when you were a kid and you would bring your bike up to the top of the biggest 'hill' you could find and then roll down the driveway without ever having to pedal. Well that is exactly what we have been doing. Only difference is we get to roll with our hands tightly gripping the handlebars, fingers curled over the brakes and legs perfectly still for 12 km before we have to pedal again. We try to keep our speeds down to 60km or less but it is very difficult.
The problem with going down such a big hill is that you must first go up. It was relatively easy when we brought our bikes up the highest point of the driveway but we have to pedal up these mountains. Very slowly. Not intentionally slow but the law of gravity enforces it. Yesterday we hit speeds of 7.9km an hour as we climbed 40 continuous km. It was oh so tiring and oh so hot. There were ice cold water falls flowing down the rocks walls beside us and snow on the ground but we were toasting. We stopped twice to take a quick shower in the falls and then continue on.
Today we had 2 of those climbs instead of just one. But that means double the fun when we're coming down. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful!
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
Paul and Teresa
