There are many things that can keep up awake at night. First of all, we keep waking up at 4:00 a.m. with the sun. So our nights are short already. In one place it is water sprinklers, thunder and wind. Then it was trains in Pendleton shunting, banging and horn blowing all night long (you'd think we were in Chatham or something). On July 4th we had a neighbourhood dog that did not like our presence and needed to let us know about it all night. Last night, it was the intense wind. Tents snapped, buckled and moved and literally created a cacophony of noise. Added to this was the people who couldn't whisper as they dragged sleeping bags and some tents into the gym for peace and quiet there. Some people actually woke up and didn't know the wind was blowing.
Today we changed we changed from Pacific time to Mountain time, so we tried to sleep an hour later or at least we got an hour later start. It was a short ride and we had an awesome tailwind, so most of us were done by noon. It was not without mishap. The group had 3 falls and 29 flats in total for the day. We were on the Interstate for a bit and I (Paul) picked up a little bit of steel belting or something like that which we pulled out later and caused a leak.
We stayed in Ontario. Ontario, Oregon that is.
We met a man at a coffee shop (Wayne) who said he was born and raised in Ontario and of course, we all said "me too."
